Vodafone Wayfinder GPS takes a wrong turn
Posted on 15 Mar 2010 at 14:13
After spending millions on Wayfinder last year, Vodafone has decided to pull the plug on the sat-nav service due to the flood of free competition on the market.
Since last year a lot has changed in the market, with Nokia offering its Ovi Maps software for free, for life. Google has also moved into the Satnav market with voice navigation for its Google Maps, although the service is still only available in the US.
With the increased competition Vodafone has decided that developing its own navigation software no longer makes commercial sense. Instead, the company is committed to using third-party software, so that it can still offer sat-nav on its handsets.
