Our Rating
The GeForce 9600 GSO is actually a rebadged GeForce 8800 GS. This mid-range card was originally released in January 2008, but is still respectably powerful today.
Our Call of Duty 4 benchmark ran at a smooth 37.5fps. This figure slipped by just 3fps when we upped the resolution to 1,920x1,080. The 9600 GSO is quick enough to play today's most popular online shooter at high detail settings, so it should handle most modern PC titles. Crysis was more problematic; this card struggled at a resolution of 1,680x1,050. However, by reducing the resolution to 1,280x1,024, with 2x anti-aliasing and medium detail, we got a very playable 31.7fps.
The GeForce 9600 GSO isn't particularly small, and it's quite noisy. However, if you're not really bothered about playing games at high detail levels, this card offers an impressive balance of price and performance.
