The Radeon HD 4830 is very similar to the Radeon HD 4850. Initial prices for the two cards were similar, but the gap has now widened to £32.
The HD 4830 has fewer stream processors than the HD 4850 - 640 rather than 800 - and its clock speed and memory are slightly slower, too. It has an onboard audio controller, and so can output audio via HDMI. Despite its lower specifications, it performed well in Crysis, scoring 20.5fps compared to the HD 4850's 21.1fps. By lowering the resolution to 1,440x900 and disabling anti-aliasing, we got a frame rate of 32.6fps.
Although the HD 4850 is a little quicker in some games than the HD 4830, the difference isn't hugely significant. For only £90 it's a great choice for gamers who want plenty of performance for relatively little money.
