Sapphire fixes Eyefinity for DVI monitors

One of the main features of ATI's new graphics cards, such as the Radeon HD 5870, is Eyefinity, which lets you play games over three screens. However, it's had one big problem: one of the monitors has to use a DisplayPort connection.

With these monitors both rare and expensive, many users have felt frustrated. The frustration is finally over, with Sapphire's new adaptor, which allows three DVI monitors to be used with Eyefinity.

The Active DisplayPort adapter is powered via a USB port and converts the graphics card's DisplayPort output to DVI, allowing any standard display to be used as the third screen. The adapter is on sale now for £80 from Ebuyer.com.

This might sound like quite a lot of money, but it's significantly cheaper than buying a DisplayPort monitor. You can currently buy the Dell U2410 24in monitor for £437; the Samsung 2443NW 24in monitor costs just £207. Even including the cost of the adaptor, you'd be £150 better off buying the Samsung monitor.
