Although we've seen other earphones that cost as much as Bose's in-ear set, this is the most expensive pair we've reviewed to have an open driver design that blocks little noise.
They feel particularly well made and come with a nice semi-rigid case and alternative rubber sleeves.
The in-ear headphones feel comfortable at first, but they began to feel big and heavy in the ear after 15 minutes or so. Switching to the smallest sleeve size didn't seem to help much. Given their high price, we were disappointed with their sound quality. Their mid-range and treble response is muted, leaving acoustic and classical music sounding confined.
In louder rock, dance and hip-hop tracks, thick bass and low mid-range frequencies crowd out the other elements. We were able to improve this by reducing the bass level on our sound source, but Sennheiser's MX400 set and Creative's EP630s sound better. We can think of no reason to choose the Bose set over one of the two cheaper pairs.
