Pioneer launches AirPlay compatible VSX-2012-K receiver

Home audio brand Pioneer has announced its first AV receiver to include integrated support for Apple's AirPlay technology, allowing users with iOS devices such as the iPad and iPhone to stream music wirelessly.

The Pioneer VSX-1021-K is a fully-featured 7.1-channel AV receiver, featuring 90W power output per main channel and up to 130W for the sub-woofer. Powered by Texas Instruments' popular Aureus DSP engine, the receiver supports Dolby True HD, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Pro-Logic IIz, and DTS-HD master audio, along with multi-channel SACD transfer via HDMI.

Featuring five HDMI inputs and a single output, two component video inputs, five composite inputs, two USB ports, three analogue audio inputs with a single output, four digital inputs, and a headphone output, it's an impressive enough beast - but when coupled with the optional AS-WL300 wireless network adapter or AS-BT200 or AS-BT100 Bluetooth adapter, it takes on a whole new life.

When used with the wireless adaptors, or a wired Ethernet connection via the included port, the VSX-1021-K can stream music via DLNA, UPnP, or Apple's AirTunes - and with the free Remote app, an iPad or iPhone can be used as a fully-functional remote control for the receiver.

Sadly, Pioneer has yet to confirm UK pricing for the device - but it's expected to launch in the US imminently, priced at $550 (around £340.)
