Bowers & Wilkins launches new M-1-based Mini Theatre packages
Posted on 14 Feb 2012 at 09:58
Audio specialist Bowers & Wilkins has announced an upgrade to its M-1 speaker as used in its Mini Theatre system first launched six years ago.
While the company's new M-1 speakers are remarkably compact, it claims that no performance has suffered. Rather, the new M-! speakers boast improved full range performance which can deliver audio on a par with far larger bookshelf speakers.
The revised M-1s include all-new drive units, an upgraded tweeter designed in-house and a mid-range and bass driver using the same Anti-Resonance Plug technology found in the flagship PM1 bookshelf speaker for improved fidelity.
According to B&W's testing, the new M-1 speakers boast a frequency response of 64Hz to 23KHz and are suitable for use with amplifiers between 20W to 100W when bought as stand-alone units.
The new M-1s will also be made available as part of the MT-60D Mini Theatre system, an upgrade to the original Mini Theatre which adds five new M-1s to a redesigned PV1D subwoofer. Replacing the DB1, the PV1D features onboard digital signal processing and a dynamic equaliser circuit without losing the balanced drive and pressure vessel design of its predecessor.
For those who would prefer something a little more traditional, the MT-50 Mini Theatre bundles five of the same M-1 speakers with an ASW608 subwoofer, a boxy design which will fit closer to most people's image of a subwoofer unit.
All models in the series will be available in matte black and white finishes, the company has confirmed. Each is available now, with prices set at £1,950 for the top-end MT-60D package, £150 each for the M-1 satellite speakers and £1,200 for the PV1D on its own.
