Sony launches new sound systems

  • Sony HT-SF470 home theatre system
  • Sony HT-CT350 sound bar
  • Sony HT-CT150 sound bar

Sony has taken the wraps off three new home cinema sound systems which offer full support for 3D over HDMI 1.4.

First off the blocks is the HT-CT350, a 3.1-channel 'sound bar' designed to give a pseudo surround-sound effect despite comprising a single front speaker bar. The HT-CT350 is designed to attach directly to Sony's Bravia range of HDTVs via an included bracket, although due to its size you'll need a 40" or larger model. It's an impressive upgrade over the built-in speakers, too, offering 400W of total power split between the three speakers plus the sub.

If you decided the 40in Bravia was too big and opted for the 32in model instead, you'll want the HT-CT150. Designed specifically for the smaller screen, it offers the same features as the larger HT-CT350 - although its smaller size drops the power down to a still impressive 340W.

Both sound cards feature support for uncompressed HD audio via either a co-axial or optical digital input and include an HDMI pass-through connector featuring three inputs. Bravia Sync - a system that allows a compatible TV and AV receiver to be controlled from a single remote

- is also included.

Finally, Sony has detailed the more traditional 5.1-channel HT-SF470 home theatre system. Each of the five speakers is rated at 157W - with the subwoofer a meatier 167W - and the included HDMI pass-through is again 3D-ready. An auto-calibration system is included, along with all the features of the two sound bar devices - and support for optional wireless connections to the speakers.

All three systems will hit the US by June, with prices starting at $300 for the HT-CT150 and hitting $550 for the HT-SF470. UK pricing has not yet been announced.
