Onkyo launches THX certified HT-S9300THX

Home theatre specialist Onkyo has announced what it claims is the world's first 3D ready A/V receiver with THX I/S Plus certification, the HT-S9300THX.

Featuring four HDMI inputs - supporting the latest 1.4a version of the standard, which supports 1080p full-HD 3D content - and an in-built upscaler which the company promises will turn content received on any input into a top-quality 1080p output, Onkyo certainly hasn't forgotten the visuals - but it's the audio that interests on this package.

Designed to offer a home theatre in a box, the HT-S9300THX comes with no fewer than seven separate speakers plus a 12in sub-woofer, and support for the side-by-side and top-and-bottom 3D audio formats. As well as the THX I/S Plus certification, the receiver contains audio processing features from THX, Audyssey, and Onkyo itself - plus support for lossless Dolby and DTS audio. For true three-dimensional sound placing, the system also supports Dolby ProLogic IIz height channel processing.

The company claims that a specially designed dual-woofer system developed by THX in the front speakers allows for a "sonic presentation that is remarkably close to that found in the best THX movie theatres."

To simplify the setup of the receiver, Onkyo has included an active room acoustic correction technology from Audyssey which measures the acoustics in a room at a pre-set volume in order to adjust the output levels of each speaker automatically.

The HT-S9300THX is expected to launch in the US at the end of this month for an estimated $1,099 (around £711), with no UK launch date or pricing information yet available.
