PlayStation 3 gets 3D update
Posted on 22 Apr 2010 at 13:57
Sony announced today that its PlayStation 3 console will receive a new firmware update with support for 3D gaming. Timed to coincide with the upcoming release of Sony's 3D Bravia TVs - although it's Samsung's 3D sets that are actually first to market in the UK.
The update allows for stereoscopic gaming on the console, an exciting proposition as it's far easier to get games up and running in 3D, compared to the long wait for a reasonable catalogue of movies to be shot in the format.
Sony will be giving away free vouchers with some of its 3D sets, allowing owners to download 3D-enabled versions of games from its PlayStation Network (PSN) service. Games include WipEout HD, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, PAIN and Super Stardust HD. A good selection, but no big blockbuster titles.
