We've reviewed previous SSDs from Kingston. Although they were fast, they were also very expensive. We therefore weren't expecting much from Kingston's keenly priced 64GB V+ SSD, but the results of our benchmarks surprised us.

The V+ excelled in our large files tests, writing them at just over 121MB/s and reading them at 151.1MB/s. It was also very quick at writing small files, doing so at just over 100MB/s. The only disappointment was its speeds reading small files. At 64.6MB/s, it's slower than the fastest SSDs we've seen, but it's still faster than many internal hard disks. Despite the relative sluggishness of its speeds reading small files, it still managed to load our challenging Crysis level in just 26 seconds which is very quick.

Included in the box are all the accessories you're likely to need. There's a copy of Acronis True Image cloning software and a USB enclosure so you can copy the contents of your existing hard disk to the V+. The program can even be used to securely wipe your existing disk if you're going to dispose of it. Once you're ready to fit it inside your PC, a mounting bracket as well as the necessary SATA power and data cables are included. If it all sounds a bit daunting, a well-illustrated PDF manual is included on the software disc.

The Kingston 64GB V+ SSD is a great all-round disk with consistently good performance at a reasonable price. The useful set of accessories, well-chosen for upgraders, is another plus. It's a great boot drive and wins a Best Buy award.
