This would have been the highest-capacity hard disk we've ever seen if it weren't for the last-minute arrival of Western Digital's 2TB Caviar Green.
That said, 1.5TB is still a staggering capacity. Best of all, it doesn't come at a price premium: at just 8p, this hard disk has one of the lowest cost per gigabyte of any hard disk we've reviewed. Its performance was consistently strong in our tests, breaking the 100MB/s barrier when reading large files and performing between five and 10 per cent faster than average throughout.
For many people, a 1TB capacity will be more than enough, in which case Samsung's F1 DT 1TB, with its even faster performance, is our top recommendation. However, anyone who records TV or edits video on their PC can never have too much disk space. For them, the Barracuda 7200.11 is ideal.
