Verdict:
It's expensive and very fast, but you have to pay a hefty premium for the privilege.

Our Rating
As one of the two most expensive laptops on test, we were expecting big things from the Rock.
Although it's not as huge as the Acer, the Rock is still pretty chunky and at 3.8kg, it's heavy too. The Xtreme CTX Pro has a heavyweight specification to match its build, though the Core 2 Duo T7400 processor runs at 2.16GHz and is matched with 2GB of memory. As you'd expect with such a combo, the Rock achieved a group test-leading result of 156% in our benchmarks. Gaming performance was second only to the Evesham, with the GeForce 7950 Go graphics chip achieving 87%.
The 17in screen provides good image quality and with a native resolution of 1680 x 1050, there's enough Desktop space to run several programs at once. While the keyboard and trackpad are both usable, the off-centre trackpad often caused us to jog the cursor while typing. It's very aggravating and has you itching to disable it and attach an external USB mouse.
