Sony warns of overheating problems in 535,000 Vaio laptops

Sony has announced that around 535,000 of its Vaio laptops may be in danger of overheating after discovering a temperature gauge error.
The company said it had received 39 complaints about overheating in its Vaio F and C-series laptops, which led to distortion of the machine’s shape. None of the complaints included burn injuries.
“In rare cases, these notebook computers can overheat due to a potential malfunction of the internal temperature management system,” said Sony in a statement.
Of the laptops affected, over 100,000 of them were sold in Europe, with the rest sold in the US, Japan and China. Sony said that all of the complaints were outside of Japan and that there had been “no reports” of any issues in the UK.
In Europe, the models affected are the Vaio VPCF11 and VPCCW2 series and have been on sale since January of this year.
The problem can be addressed with a firmware update, which can be downloaded here, and you can also check if your laptop is one of the affected models.
