Dell launches AMD-based 11.6in laptop

Dell is blurring the line between netbook and laptop with the launch of a new 11.6in device featuring an AMD processor and ATI graphics - the Inspiron M101z.
The company's latest creation is designed to be nearly as portable as a netbook, while offering significantly higher performance.
Unlike most netbooks, which use Intel's low-powered Atom processor, Dell's M101z features a 1.7GHz AMD Athlon II single-core processor along with ATI Radeon RS880M graphics. Although the combination isn't enough to quite run the latest games, it does offer enough performance to run Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium acceptably - again, distinguishing the device from netbooks running Windows 7 Starter Edition or even Windows XP.
The Inspiron M101z's 11.6in screen is 1366x768 resolution - higher than a netbook - while a 1.3 megapixel webcam is integrated into the frame. Connectivity is covered by an 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi chip along with Bluetooth 3.0 and a wired Ethernet port, and both VGA and HDMI connections are available should you wish to use an external monitor or TV.
As an ultraportable, the Inspiron M101z doesn't include an optical drive - although USB-connected external drives are available if you need to use CDs or DVDs.
The base model starts at £379, while a model with a dual-core processor will set you back £429. Both versions are available now.
