Apple probing glass trackpad click failures
Posted on 4 Nov 2008 at 09:44
Apple is looking into reports that the glass trackpad on the new MacBooks and MacBook Pros does not register every click.
In response to an email sent to chief executive Steve Jobs, one MacBook Pro user received a telephone call from an Apple representative acknowledging that the company had received numerous reports of the same problem.
“He told me that Apple is researching the clicking issue,” the anonymous user says. “They have no resolution of it and, of course, there’s not really an official acknowledgment of it, but they are checking into it because they’ve heard the complaint frequently.”
The new MacBook models dispense with the separate button for clicking. In its place the whole trackpad is clickable, enabling Apple to increase its size to support a greater number of multitouch gestures.
The MacBook Pro users also complained that the hinge on the MacBook Pro is looser than on previous models, allowing the lid to fall shut when set at certain angles. Apple said that the hinge is meant to be looser, though no explanation for this was provided.
