Apple sets price for MacBook Pro battery

Apple has revealed that it will cost £139 to replace the integrated battery in the new 17in MacBook Pro, once the one-year warranty has expired.
That charge includes installation of the new battery and “environmentally responsible” disposal of the old one.
Replacements can be made either at an Apple retail store, for same-day repair provided you have an appointment, via the Mail-In service with free delivery and collection, or at an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
For more information see Replacing the Battery in your MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2009).
The same service is available to MacBook Air users for £99.
Apple has employed a new battery technology in the latest MacBook Pro, which it says provides up to eight hours of use on a single charge while at the same time prolonging the lifespan of the battery by up to three times longer than before. The downside is that to incorporate the enlarged battery, Apple dispensed with the mechanisms and housings that are required if the battery is to be removable by the user.
