Asus launches ultra-thin laptops

Asus has shown Computer Shopper some of the new laptops it first launched at the Computex show in Taiwan at the beginning of June. There were a number of new laptops based on Intel??s new single-core, low-voltage 1.3GHz SU2700 processor.
We took a peek at the new U20 ultra-portable laptop that uses this chip. It comes with 4GB of RAM and a 300GB hard disk, and has a 12.1in LED-backlit screen.
Weighing under 2kg and only 29mm thick, the U20 has what Asus describes as a 'chiclet'-style keyboard, where the flat-topped keys are well separated from each other. The keyboard is backlit and uses a light sensor to adjust the backlight depending on the current light conditions. There's also a backlight on the touchpad that follows your finger movements. The U20 will cost £799.
We also saw a new model in Asus' Eee PC Seashell range, the 1101HA. This differs from previous models by having a larger 11.6in LED-backlit screen that has a resolution of 1,366x768 pixels ??" ideal for watching movies on, as this is the same resolution as 720p TVs. The 1101HA is powered by a 1.33GHz single-core Intel Atom Z520 processor and 1GB of RAM, and has a 160GB hard disk.
We liked the keyboard on the 1101HA. The main keys are large and responsive, with a crisp typing action that gives plenty of feedback for touch-typists. The Seashell 1101HA costs around £360 from online retailers.
