Archos readies touchscreen Windows 7 tablet
Posted on 3 Jul 2009 at 11:00
Archos has demonstrated a pre-production model of its new Archos 9 tablet, which will use netbook components and run Windows 7. The 8.9in touchscreen has a 1,024x600 resolution and supports multi-touch gestures just like the iPhone.
With an Atom 1.2GHz Z515 CPU, 1GB of RAM and a choice of 80GB or 160GB hard disks, the Archos 9 conforms to the standard netbook specification. It also has a built-in 3G modem (you'll have to provide your own SIM) card slot, a webcam, and twin DVB-T digital TV tuners. Bluetooth and 802.11b/g wireless are also built-in.
The Windows 7 version of the Archos 9 will be available on 22 October for £450 (80GB version) or £500 (160GB version).
We were hoping to hear more about Archos??s plans for Internet Media Tablets running Google??s open source Android operating system, but we were told that an announcement will come on the 15th September, and the devices themselves will definitely be in the shops for Christmas.
