Dell launches Adamo XPS, the 'world's thinnest laptop'

Dell has launched what it claims is 'the world's thinnest laptop'. The new Adamo XPS measures just under 10mm at its thickest point.
The Adamo XPS has a 13.4in LED-backlit screen, up to 4GB of RAM, an ultra-low-voltage 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor and a 128GB solid-state hard drive. This means it won't be the fastest laptop in the world, and it isn't the lightest, at 1.44kg. However, this is still light enough to carry everywhere with you, and isn't bad considering the size of the screen.
To open the screen latch, you simply swipe your finger on the capacitative area. Unlike other laptops, the keyboard doesn't hinge at the corner. Instead it hinges further up, allowing for plenty of airflow when open. We assume this is necessary because of the lack of internal space for cooling, rather than being for a more comfortable typing angle.
Dell hasn't released any battery life estimates - nor pricing for that matter - but it has revealed that the battery is replaceable, unlike certain other thin laptops (the MacBook Air being one of them).
The keyboard has aluminium keys, and a touchpad that supports gestures. It will also come with Windows 7 64-bit, although the particular edition is unknown.
In terms of ports, the Adamo XPS will have two USB, minijack audio, DisplayPort and Ethernet. Due to the size of the Ethernet socket, Dell couldn't fit one into the XPS and so bundles an adaptor in the box.
The packaging itself is claimed to be as beautiful as the laptop, resembling a black jewellery box.
We expect the Adamo XPS to cost well over £1,000, and we'll bring you a full review as soon as we can.
