Motion Computing launches its rugged iPad competitor

Motion Computing has announced its latest rugged tablet, the J3500.
Designed to offer an iPad-like experience - via finger or stylus control - in environments that are unlikely to be kind to sensitive electronics, the J3500 features a 12.1in capacitive screen withtwo-point multitouch and is fully compatible with the touch features in Windows 7.
Interestingly, the display is covered in a layer of Gorilla Glass from Corning, an increasingly popular display covering which the company claims is extremely resistant to scratching and up to four times less likely to break as a result of impact. While Gorilla Glass is a common sight in smartphones, it's a rare thing indeed to see it on a screen of this size.
Internally, the specifications are subject to change depending on your particular requirements: both Core i7 and i5 processors are on offer, along with a choice of 160GB mechanical hard drive or 64GB or 128GB solid state drives if you're likely be bashing the J3500 around a lot.
A three megapixel camera designed for capturing documentation while out in the field is also included as standard.
As well as standard wireless communication, Motion has included mobile broadband via the Gobi2000 chip, which adds GPS to the mix, allowing the device to be used for moving-map and information gathering purposes as well as general computing tasks.
Pricing for the J3500 starts at $2,459 (around £1,650), which means Motion won't be taking any sales away from Apple's iPad in the consumer market quite yet.
