Verdict:
A fast, well-built and well specified laptop, with an average screen though.

Our Rating
The one downside of low-cost notebooks is usually that they don't perform as well as more expensive models - but no one seems to have told this to IBM. The ThinkPad performed pretty well for a machine of this spec, helped along by the blisteringly quick IBM hard disk on board. That's one more reason to investigate the ThinkPad - in a market awash with cheap clones and inferior rebadged machines, it's good to see a big company dabbling in the low end and keeping their reputation for quality intact. If you want a touch of class in a notebook, then try the ThinkPad.
