Soyo PW-9801 review

Verdict:

Miniaturization comes at too high a price with the Soyo PW-9801. The keyboard is poor, battery life short and performance weak.

Review Date: 1 May 2000

Price when reviewed: (£822)

Our Rating 3 stars out of 5

A built-in modem is certainly a plus and the Soyo has a 56K example. With mobility being a notebook's claim to fame, you don't want to do all your work, and find you have no way of sending your efforts back to the office.

Subnotebooks are all about compromises, and Soyo has obviously tried to strike a balance between ergonomics and size. Unfortunately it's tipped the scale too far towards miniaturization and away from comfort. If it were incredibly cheap, this failing could be excused to an extent but, at this price, I reckon you should save up, and spend the extra on Atlas's Flyer 4700SE, reviewed last month.
