The best build quality we've seen at this price, and a sensible selection of components to match. The only disappointment is the nickel metal hydride battery.

In the end, we're willing to forgive IBM its choice of battery. The core components are beyond reproach at this price, the CD-ROM's integrated but the weight's kept to a reasonable level, and IBM doesn't compromise on build quality. What more could you want from a budget notebook?
