HP Compaq nx6110 review
Verdict:
The HP doesn't look or feel like a budget notebook and it gets all the core ingredients right: the screen, touch pad and keyboard are the best in the group. All that's missing is 256MB more memory, which will cost you £22.

The HP Compaq nx6110 is a great notebook with an impressive screen. It also performed well in our benchmarks, despite having only 256MB of memory.
FEATURES
The nx6110 comes from HP's business notebook range, and this is reflected in its serious-looking design. Its build quality is the best in the group, with minimal flex in the base and screen and high-quality plastic surrounding the keyboard.
The HP is also equipped with the best keyboard and touch pad on test. The keys are well spaced and have plenty of travel, while the touch pad's large rubber buttons are a joy to use. The 15" screen is not the brightest, but it has the best contrast of all the screens in the group, making it superb for displaying photos.
The nx6110 has FireWire and wireless networking built in, but only two USB2.0 ports, so you'll probably need to buy a USB hub. It's slim and fairly portable at just 2.75kg, while its battery life of 182 minutes is sufficient for computing on the move.
PERFORMANCE
Like the Fujitsu-Siemens system, the nx6110 uses an Intel Celeron M processor. Unlike that system, though, it also has the latest Sonoma chipset. This has a marked effect on performance. The HP managed a much faster score of 2,424 in PCMark04 and scored 62 in the Shopper benchmarks. It was also the only notebook to run our 3DMark03 benchmark. However, its score of 561 suggests that, like the other notebooks here, it is not really suited to gaming.
