Verdict:
A well-made, powerful laptop that looks as good as new. Packing plenty of power, the Advent is in such good shape that you'd think it was new.

Our Rating
The Advent 6001 is the best laptop this month that doesn't get an award. Like both the Acer and the Fujitsu-Siemens, it's in such good condition that you'd think it was a brand new system.
Even if it hadn't been in tip-top shape, we'd still have been impressed by the 6001's mixture of performance, features and price. At 1.73GHz, its processor is the second fastest here, while 1GB of memory means this laptop can cope with any everyday computing task. With a specification this impressive, more demanding tasks such as image or even video editing are not out of the question.
We were particularly impressed by the Advent's 15.4in widescreen display. Widescreen laptops are becoming increasingly common and once you've used one, it's difficult to go back to a normal screen. The Advent's resolution of 1280 x 800 puts the Fujitsu-Siemens in the shade and is more than high enough to display videos and photos in high detail.
At 2.93kg, the Advent isn't exactly ultra portable, but it's still light enough to be carried around. The light-use battery time of 5 hours and 49 minutes is little short of incredible.
Of course, the Advent isn't compromise free - its hard drive is half that of the Fujitsu-Siemens, but on balance it's a slightly better machine. Its battery life is superior, while the inclusion of Microsoft Works 8 is a definite plus. There's also the matter of the warranty - the Advent comes with a year's coverage, while the Fujitsu-Siemens can only manage six months.
