Acer 4021WLMi review
Verdict:
A well-featured laptop with a good specification - and for a bargain price. Not the best choice if power is your main consideration, but this is a great bargain.

Our Rating
Getting the acer 4021WLMi out of the box really was like unpacking a brand new laptop.
Its 15.4in widescreen is one of the biggest here and its 1280 x 800 resolution is great for watching movies. The screen is bright and has excellent viewing angles, which is great if several people want to crowd around and watch a film. The keyboard is comfortable and you'll soon get used to its curved angle.
Performance is also good, though the 1.6GHz Pentium M processor isn't quite as powerful as the other components in the system. Combined with 512MB of memory, it was still enough to score 62% in our benchmarks - not great, but still good enough for word processing, email checking and the odd bit of photo editing.
Aside from the main components, you'll find a dual-layer DVD writer and a 40GB hard disk, as well as built-in Wi-Fi. All of these components contribute to the final weight of 2.78kg, which although not quite ultra-portable, is light enough to be stowed in a bag. The battery life of 2 hours and 50 minutes is also good.
Although the features of the Acer aren't quite as good as either the Fujitu-Siemens or Advent laptops, it wins a Recommended award based on its amazing price. It's more than £100 cheaper than either of the other two, and considering the sacrifices you make in return for such a saving it's easily worth your money.
