HI-Grade Notino D2200_01 review

Verdict:

If you need the maximum amount of computing power in a very small chassis, Hi-Grade's Notino is a decent choice. Unless power is your main concern, though, we'd recommend buying a notebook with a better keyboard and display.

Our Rating 3 stars out of 5

Hi-Grade's Notino is the most powerful notebook in the group, and it costs under £1,000. Its keyboard isn't great, though, and its display is disappointing.

FEATURES

Weighing 2.15kg, the Notino is the heaviest notebook in the group. Its matt black chassis is as tough as it looks, and Hi-Grade provides a two-year warranty. Inside there's a big 100GB hard disk and a DVD writer. The large battery sticks out from the back of the case, but also extends downwards to prop up the keyboard at a comfortable angle.

The keyboard itself is disappointing and flexes when you strike the keys. The touch pad is accurate and well sized, though not correctly shaped for the widescreen display. Its buttons are cut out from the chassis, and over time dirt is likely to build up in the gaps around them.

The display is the worst part of the Notino. It isn't as bright as the others in the group, and this was particularly evident in our white screen test where it showed a strong bluish tint. It won't show media files such as photos or videos at their best.

PERFORMANCE

The Notino uses a very fast 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo T2500 processor, and has 1GB of RAM. It tore through our application benchmarks with an overall score of 135, and it's easily fast enough to take on even the toughest computing tasks.

The battery lasted for an acceptable three hours and 31 minutes in our light-usage test. This isn't as good as Sony's and Toshiba's notebooks, but it is acceptable for use on the move.
