MV Mobeus 13" T2400 review

Verdict:

The Mobeus is small and stylish but also powerful. If you'd prefer a larger screen and keyboard, PC Nextday's Zoostorm is a good choice, but otherwise this is a perfect portable PC and a real bargain

MV's Mobeus is small enough to be portable, but also powerful in Windows applications. It comes with a USB TV tuner, so you can watch and record programmes.

FEATURES

Software for the Freeview TV tuner comes ready installed, so to watch TV you just plug in the tuner and an aerial. A desktop mini aerial is provided, but you'll be lucky to get a watchable picture from it. The Mobeus has a 13" LCD screen. Its native resolution of 1,280x768 pixels is similar to most of the other displays, but having so many pixels on a small screen can make everything seem cramped. It has even backlighting, though, and colours look vibrant.

With a smaller display, the entire notebook is more compact and portable, and it weighs only 2.2kg. Despite its size, it has all the ports you'll need. It has a memory card reader and three USB2 ports. One of these ports provides power even when the computer is turned off, making it ideal for charging an MP3 player. The keyboard flexes a little in use but is comfortable. The touch pad is accurate, although the buttons could use a little more feedback.

PERFORMANCE

With a fast Intel Core Duo T2400 processor inside, the Mobeus scored an impressive 113 overall in our benchmarks. It has only 512MB of RAM, though, and would be even quicker if upgraded to 1GB.

It's not capable of playing the latest 3D games, but that's hardly surprising for a small notebook. The battery lasted for just under three hours in our test, which is good enough for occasional mobile use.
