If your notebook ever travels further than the confines of your house, it's worth protecting it with a case.
The problem is that most specialised notebook bags make it obvious what you're carrying, so you might as well wear a neon sign that reads 'mug me' around your neck.
One alternative is to use a slim notebook case that you can drop into your usual bag. Tread makes a range of cases that are ideal for this kind of use. Unusually, they are made from rubber. Or, as Tread's marketing is keen to state, "re-engineered from recycled Columbian truck tyres". Bizarrely, this re-engineered rubber smells strongly of black peppercorns.
The cases are rubbery on the outside, and red and soft on the inside. The rubber is sturdy and practically impossible to tear or rip, but the case doesn't provide much shock protection. We tried the 15" case designed for Apple notebooks, but it fitted our Dell D600 perfectly.
This is an excellent and unusual, if slightly expensive, way to look after your notebook.
