LG to launch Cookie handset range

LG has announced its latest range of touch-screen handsets, which the company says is aimed directly at younger users or those new to touch displays.
The series comprises three handsets - the LG Cookie, the LG Cookie Style, and the LG Cookie 3G - and boasts a custom user interface designed for use with social media services such as Facebook and Twitter, a threaded IM and e-mail client, and a virtual QWERTY keyboard in both landscape and portrait mode for easy text entry.
The base model, the LG Cookie, is described by the company as the most compact of the range and features a 2.4in touch-screen display - although unlike many handsets on the market today, the Cookie doesn't seem to support multi-touch. As well as the standard handset features the Cookie includes a 3.5mm headphone jack and an FM radio, along with a microSD card slot to expand the internal memory.
The next model up in the series is the LG Cookie Style, which increases the display size to 2.8in and adds a range of colour options for the fashion-conscious buyer.
Finally, the premium model is the LG Cookie 3G, which includes support for 3G broadband connectivity - missing from its brethren - to offer significantly faster upload and download speeds when using the handset online. The Cookie 3G is also the only handset of the three to support push notification technology, alerting the user as soon as an e-mail arrives.
All three models are due for launch in the UK in September, although pricing has yet to be confirmed.
