New Moto X gets Moto Maker, now live in the UK

Moto X in Moto Maker

Use Moto Maker to customise your Moto X, but pre-orders still not available

The new Moto X can now be customised using Motorola’s online Moto Maker tool, which is available in the UK for the first time. Moto Maker includes options to customise how the Moto X looks and feels from colours to material and even personalised engravings.

Moto Maker was available in the USA for the last generation of Motorola devices but is now also available in the UK. Customers can change the back colour, front colour, trim colour and add an engraving to the back of the phone to make it more personal. There are plenty of colour and material options to choose from and the phone can be viewed from all angles using the 3D viewer.

All the customisations come at a cost, however. The Moto X starts at £419.99 but adding leather or wood to the back will up the price to £439.99. More memory can also be added, with the 32GB model costing £459.99 or £459.99 if you add leather or wooden back.

The Moto X still isn’t available to pre-order, so once you’ve designed your new handset you can send the design to yourself using the Email Design button.

Motorola has said that the Moto X will arrive in the UK before the end of September, but is yet to confirm a definite release date. The new Moto X is a high-end successor to the original Moto X. and is designed to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One (m8).

On the inside it runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core Krait 400 processor (MSM8974-AC) clocked at 2.5GHz, it uses an Adreno 330 (578MHz) GPU and 2GB of RAM. There’s also a 2,300mAh battery with a ‘turbo charge’ feature bringing eight hours of charge in 14 minutes. While the Moto X is available in 16GB and 32GB versions, Motorola hasn’t included a microSD card slot.

There’s support for 4G and the Moto X also has a 13MP f/2.25 rear-facing camera with dual-LED flash. The Moto X comes with Android 4.4 pre-loaded and is ‘stock Android’, so doesn’t use any skins or themes.
