New Moto E now supports 4G, has a larger 4.5in screen, Android 5.0, a front facing camera and a quad-core processor

Motorola has just announced a new model of its budget Moto E handset that supports 4G and runs Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. This isn’t just a simple refresh of last year’s Moto E, though, as it now has a larger 4.5in 960×540 resolution display, a quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 8GB of storage, a 2,390mAh battery and a brand new front-facing camera in addition to its rear 5-megapixel camera.

Motorola also says that the new Moto E will have similar personalised software to the new Moto X, bringing flagship features to its budget handheld. This includes Moto Display, which shows the time and notifications when the screen’s switched off before you get to the lock screen. This was one of our favourite features on the Moto X and we can’t wait to test it out on the new Moto E.

Specs-wise, it’s a huge improvement, as the old Moto E only had a dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor, a 4.3in 960×540 resolution screen, 4GB of storage and a rear 5-megapixel camera. There was no front-facing camera at all, so the new Moto E will be good news for selfie fans. Admittedly, the new Moto E’s screen won’t be quite as sharp, as its larger screen gives it a lower pixel density of 244 pixels-per-inch rather than 256ppi, but this shouldn’t make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things.

Motorola says the battery should last a full day, too, according to its own mixed usage figures. This will be great if true, although the original Moto E’s battery score of just under ten hours was still pretty impressive.

As we’ve only just got our hands on the handset, we’ve yet to put it through a full benchmark test, but we’ll bring you our full review as soon as possible.
