Facebook on a million iPhones
Posted on 28 Jul 2008 at 11:56
Facebook has provided some indication of just how iPhone and iPod touch users are downloading the most popular applications from the new App Store.
Jed Stremel, director of Mobile at Facebook, told TechCrunch's Mobile Web Wars Roundtable that the Facebook application now has one million users. Apple has stopped providing download data, but Facebook is listed as the seventh most popular among the free applications.
Facebook said this week that it plans to release the code for its application under an open source licence.
Meanwhile Apple is to open all its US stores at 8am to accommodate demand for the 3G iPhone, despite widespread shortages. In the UK, aspiring owners can check next-day availability at Apple's retail stores by visiting apple.com/uk/retail/iphone/.
