Microsoft is rumoured to be teaming up with Nokia on a new project for Microsoft's Zune. The two are working together on the integration of Zune Marketplace content, according to specialist website Zunescene.
Zune Marketplace is an online music, video and pocast store; Microsoft's competitor to Apple's iTunes. Nokia does not currently support Windows Mobile with any of its handsets, and speculation suggests that Microsoft is looking to get Zune software onto Nokia's Symbian operating system
With Zune Marketplace available on both Windows Mobile handsets and Nokia's Symbian handsets, Microsoft os hoping to make its sevice a more credible iTunes competitor.
Zunescene cites a "well-placed Microsoft source", who insists the project is focused towards content delivery rather than developing a hardware device.
"If there is a Zune phone I don't know about it," said the source.
The Microsoft source also clarified that the Nokia agreement is not an exclusive one and claimed that "it's too soon to say" when the proposed deal will bear fruit.
