Obama campaigns on the iPhone
Posted on 3 Oct 2008 at 10:15
Barack Obama has released an iPhone application designed to make it easier for supporters to keep in touch with his campaign and to persuade others to vote for him.
Top of the feature list is a clever reorganising of the iPhones’ or iPod touch’s contacts to prioritise them by key states that Obama needs to win if he is to be the next US president.
The number of calls is then totalled and sent to the Obama HQ - his campaign say that only the number of calls made is collected - so users can compare their own contribution to the campaign with the leading callers.
The app also provides the latest news, videos and photos, Obama’s policy statements, local events with directions and details of the nearest campaign office.
Obama’s campaign is notable for the way in which it has embraced mobile and Web 2.0 technologies, one reason, pundits say, for his big following amongst younger voters.
In turn this has galvanised the same voters to play a key role in his campaign, for example in the Fight The Smears drive, which encourages supporters to spread rebuttals to inaccurate statements about the presidential candidate.
