Google adds ads to iPhone
Posted on 9 Dec 2008 at 10:58
Google has announced that it has begun support for displaying Adwords advertisements on the iPhone, iPod touch, the Google Android-based G1 and other mobile devices with full web browsers.
Advertisers will be able to target ads to specific devices and Google in return will provide separate performance reporting. But because only complete browsers such as mobile Safari and are supported, ads won’t need to be specially formatted.
“G1 and iPhone ads have many of the same benefits as our standard mobile-format ads, such as allowing you to deliver mobile-specific calls-to-action and reaching your audience when they’re on the go,” said Amanda Kelly, from the Inside AdWords team.
Advertisers running standard mobile ad formats won’t be affected, and the ads will continue to run on mobile phones with mobile (WAP) browsers.
As new devices with full browsers are introduced, Adwords will automatically be targeted to these devices unless the advertiser specifies otherwise.
