iPhones may have overheating battery—reports
Posted on 1 Jul 2009 at 10:49
Some owners of the white version of the new iPhone 3GS have reported that the device is suffering discolouration, apparently as a result of heat generated during prolonged use.
Several websites, among the AppleInsider and Nowhere Else, carry reports of phones that have developed brown or pink patches around their edges. The reports suggest that the discolouration appears after the phones have been used for tasks that generate a lot of heat, such as gaming or GPS navigation., or have been used for a long period of time.
The discolouration appears to follow the outline of the battery, leading Aaron Vronko of Rapid Repair to suggest that the battery cells may be faulty.
The problem may also be occurring in black iPhones, but just no so obvious to the naked eye.
Apple has yet to comment and has closed a long thread about the matter on its discussion boards—so it is at least aware of the apparent problem.
