Businesses reject iPhone

More than two-thirds of IT departments will not support the iPhone, citing concerns about the security of data on the device.
Despite the availability of free Apple software that enables lost or stolen iPhones to be secured and wiped, 65% of IT decision makers surveyed by Vanson Bourne said that were worried about data security.
But the same proportion (64%) said that they hadn’t implemented the software provided by Apple, because the phone is not widely used in business.
With many already supporting the BlackBerry, they were reluctant to have to manage more than one device, the survey found.
Sacha Charvin, managing director DeviceLock, which commissioned the survey, said that IT departments have an unenviable problem as the “consumerisation of IT” presents them with new demands.
“The amount of removable and mobile memory-enabled devices that employees have on their person at any one time is quite considerable, be it a USB stick or an iPhone," he said.
