Nokia recalls 14 million phone chargers
Posted on 9 Nov 2009 at 15:02
Finnish mobile giant Nokia has launched a recall for certain recently-manufactured Nokia-branded AC phone chargers after identifying potential quality control issues.
"During a routine quality control process, Nokia identified a potential product quality issue with certain chargers manufactured by one of its third-party suppliers," said a statement released by the company.
"The plastic covers of the affected chargers could come loose and separate, exposing the charger's internal components and potentially posing an electrical shock hazard if certain internal components are touched while the charger is plugged into a live socket."
The firm added that it isn't aware of any incidents or injuries related to the problem.
Nokia said that only a limited number of chargers manufactured by a single third party within a specific period of time are affected. These are the AC-3E and AC-3U models, manufactured between 15 June 2009 and 9 August 2009, and the AC-4U adapter, manufactured between 13 April 2009 and 25 October 2009.
No other chargers are affected by the problems.
If you've recently bought a new Nokia handset and think you might have one of these chargers, Nokia has set up a website to help you identify if your adapter is affected by the recall at http://chargerexchange.nokia.com. If you do have one of the affected chargers, Nokia advises you to stop using it and exchange it for a free replacement.
