Google Nexus Ones sales fall far short of iPhone and Milestone

Google's Nexus One has had a rather disappointing start, with sales of the search company's first handset lagging way behind those of Apple's iPhone and Motorola's Milestone (Droid in the US).
According to mobile analytics firm, Flurry, the Nexus One has sold just 135,000 units in 74 days. In the same period of time, Apple had shifted one million iPhones and Motorola 1.05m Milestones. The company estimated sales by using tracking built-in to mobile apps.
"Despite the fact that the Google Nexus One is the most advanced Android handset to date, and enjoyed substantial buzz leading up to its release, the launch has been overshadowed by lower than expected sales," said the report released by Flurry.
There are reasons why the phone hasn't done as well as expected, including the fact that Google decided to sell the handset direct, rather than the traditional channel through mobile networks. In an attempt to boost flagging sales, Google has created a version of the phone specifically for the AT&T network in the US.
The phone will also launch in the UK some time next month, where it should be available directly from mobile networks. However, it'll face stiff competition both from the iPhone and the next generation of Android handsets from HTC, including the Hero successor, the Legend.
