SBSH Mobile Software PocketBreeze 5 review

Verdict:

Review Date: 27 Jul 2006

Price when reviewed: (around £8)

Our Rating 4 stars out of 5

There are lots of Today screen plug-ins available for Pocket PCs, but being able to view upcoming appointments, tasks and notes has always been top of the list.

You can do this without any add-on software, but the latest version of PocketBreeze is much more powerful than the built-in alternative so it's well worth the money. There's almost complete flexibility over which categories of tasks to show onscreen, the date range of appointments to be displayed, and even how much Today screen space you should allocate.

What makes it so useful, though, is the fact that you can filter, edit, delete and re-schedule any of your commitments with just a tap or two on the screen, without having to go into the relevant PIM application first. Another great feature is the pop-up month calendar, which is handy just to check on which day of the week a specific date falls. Even better, a tap on any date within the calendar brings up a dialog to create a new appointment or task for that day.

Filtering allows you to show only work-related commitments, the day's appointments, or any combination of criteria that you can save as one of 32 different filter sets. Alternatively, you can set it to show everything, and expand and collapse each category as you move around the list. In Calendar mode, there's a bar across the top of each day's display, showing your allocated time clearly, so you can get a rough idea of your existing appointments at a glance.

Unfortunately, there's no option to view your contacts, as you can with some of PocketBreeze's competing products, without buying a separate program. ContactBreeze, from the same developer, does the job nicely though, and is only $6 (around £3).

PocketBreeze is the most flexible product of its type. It's a joy to use, and a huge time-saver for anyone with a busy agenda. PocketBreeze works with Agenda Fusion and Pocket Informant, as well as the standard PIM suite
