Resco Sokoban review
Sokoban may be one of the oldest computer games in existence, as it has been around for more than 25 years. The aim of the game is to slide crates around a warehouse, moving them all into a pre-designated area.
The work is done with a little character who can push the crates directly from behind and can move only single crates. You have to slide everything in the right order, or you'll get jammed in, or be unable to move a line of two or more crates.
The game used to have the most basic graphics, showing a top-down view of the play area akin to an old sliding-tile puzzle. This latest version has brought everything up to date, with slick 3D graphics, smooth animation and audio soundtrack.
Graphically, the game is a real treat, and it looks particularly good on VGA-resolution screens. However, the 3D graphics tend to make it harder to visualise the layout of the play area with a quick glance. There's an option to make the crates appear semi-transparent, which helps, but the old-fashioned layout was simpler, though less impressive to look at. It's easy enough to move the character around the screen one-handed using the Pocket PC five-way navigator, but it's a pity there's no option to use stylus taps instead.
Otherwise, there's a lot on offer, with 100 levels, progressing up to complex layouts that can take days to solve. There are four different warehouse styles to choose from, lots of different male and female characters to add more visual variety, and a level editor so you can create your own layouts
