ViewSonic launches 27in monitor: VX2739wm
Posted on 7 May 2010 at 10:17
ViewSonic has launched the VX2739wm, the 'world's first' 27in monitor with a response time of one millisecond. ViewSonic claims this fast response time means the VX2739wm can easily handle rapidly moving images, making it ideally suited for gaming, high-definition video playback and graphic design.
We'd be surprised if anyone can tell the difference between this response time and the many displays with 4 or 5ms panels, but we'll wait until the monitor is in our labs before we make any judgements on it.
Despite its size, the VX2739wm has a standard 1080p resolution, so there's no advantage in buying this over the plethora of 22-24in monitors in terms of desktop real-estate. At least there are HDMI, DVI and VGA inputs, plus a useful four-port USB hub and a headphone output.
"We are proud to be launching yet another world first and continuing ViewSonic's strong display heritage," said James Coulson, European marketing manager at ViewSonic. "Until now users wanting a larger screen experience have had to compromise by buying a TV with data capability. The VX2739wm is a data monitor first, and has been specifically designed to work optimally with computer based sources, delivering far higher response times and picture clarity than that currently offered by consumer TVs."
Of course, the VX2739wm isn't the first 27in monitor, nor the largest available. However, if it sells for the expected £240 inc VAT, it may turn out to be good value. Currently, web retailers are pre-listing it for around £300 inc VAT.
As always, we'll bring you a review as soon as a test model arrives in our labs.
