AOC launches e2239Fwt multitouch monitor for laptop owners
Posted on 17 May 2010 at 10:48
We've seen several attempts at creating the perfect companion monitor for a laptop, but AOC's new e2239Fwt is by far the most unusual. Instead of a central stand beneath the display, the e2239Fwt has a leg at each end.
This allows you to place your laptop underneath it so you can still use its keyboard, but benefit from a much larger screen. It's an odd approach, but it's certainly good news for anyone with very limited desk space.
Unsurprisingly, the display has a Full HD resolution - 1,920x1,080 - and a ludicrous claimed dynamic contrast of 20,000,000:1. It also uses LEDs instead of traditional fluorescent tubes for backlighting, although it's stated brightness of 250cd/m2 is a little below the average.
What's interesting about the e2239Fwt is its multitouch capabilities. However, we've not been told how many fingers you can use at once on the e2239Fwt, nor what technology it uses.
We're still unconvinced by the usefulness of touch on a desktop monitor, though, as it's very uncomfortable to use one for more than a few minutes when seated. Plus, in Windows, it's still usually faster to use the keyboard and mouse.
In terms of connectivity, the e2239Fwt has a pair of HDMI inputs, plus VGA for older hardware. There's also a trio of USB ports, integrated speakers and a headphone/line-out jack.
The e2239Fwt will be available to buy in June, but pricing hasn't yet been decided. We'll try and get our hands on the screen and bring you an in-depth review as soon as we can.
