Albatron announces EM215 multi-touch converter

Hardware manufacturer Albatron has announced the pending release of a simple add-on that promises to turn your plain old monitor into a multi-touch marvel in just sixty seconds.
Previewed ahead of its official release at Computex and showcased over on HotHardware, the Albatron EM215 is a 21.5 inch 16:9 add-on panel which sits at the front of your existing monitor and turns it into a multi-touch display.
Promising full compatibility with Windows 7 with no driver hassles and a tool-free installation, Albatron claims that you can be up and running with a full multi-touch environment in under a minute - although Windows XP users will only get single-touch functionality.
While the company claims that the device supports all 16:9, 4:3, and 5:4 displays with a viewable area of less than 478mm x 269mm, the EM215 is clearly designed for use with a 21.5" 16:9 display - although if this model proves successful it's likely we'll see further sizes in the range.
The multi-touch functionality claims to allow operation via "finger, pen or ruler" and even works when the user is wearing gloves - although whether you'd actually be wearing gloves indoors while working at your PC is questionable. A tempered glass panel with anti-scratch coating rounds off the package and promises a clear, robust window through which you can see your existing display.
Although the company is keen to show off the EM215, it's waiting until the official launch during Computex at the beginning of June to announce availability and pricing.
