Mitsubishi announces FPS-boosting monitor

Mitsubishi has announced a new widescreen monitor which the company claims is the first to offer interpolation technology designed to increase motion clarity.
According to coverage of the device over on TechConnect Magazine, the Mitsubishi RDT232WM-Z is a 23in full HD monitor with a seemingly unique feature: the ability to take an input signal running at 60 frames per second and interpolate it into a 120 frames per second display - providing, according to Mitsubishi's claims, far smoother motion clarity.
As well as the company's "double-speed interpolation" feature, the display includes an impressive 3ms grey-to-grey response time, a non-dynamic 1000:1 contrast ratio, and a pair of HDMI inputs alongside a single analogue D-Sub and a single digital DVI connector.
The company is clearly aiming the monitor at the home entertainment and gaming market, with an included remote control and in-built 3W speaker system rounding out the package.
What isn't yet known is just how effective the interpolation function is: while it's possible for a cleverly written engine to create frames of animation where there are none - a process known as 'tweening' - it can often introduce strange artifacts and an overly smooth, plastic feel to images that many find uncomfortable to watch for long periods.
While no pricing details have yet been released, the display is expected to launch in Japan first on the 11th of June, with other regions to follow.
