Apple is "the number one music retailer in the world"
Posted on 4 Apr 2008 at 08:57
Apple is claiming to be the leading global music retailer, having established itself as number one in the US market.
Eddy Cue, Apple's vice president of iTunes, confirmed leaked figures from NPD which showed that Apple had overtaken Wal-Mart as the biggest music retailer in the US. He then claimed that the company's dominance is worldwide.
"We launched iTunes less than five years ago, and it has now become the number one music retailer in the world," said Cue.
Such is the size of the US market that number one there may well equate to number one globally. Apple did not comment, but said that the picture "may"be clear when it publishes its next quarterly results on 23 April.
