Fridge gets cooler with iPod dock

Slovenian appliance maker Gorenje has unveiled an iPod-ready fridge.

The world’s first Made for iPod fridge freezer contains a dock set into the door and sitting between speakers. Plug an iPhone or an iPod touch into that dock and in addition to playing music and watching video, you can connect to the web, where you will find a new iGorenje portal that provides recipes and program settings for Gorenje ovens and other household tips such as washing instructions.

In the future, the company plans to develop software that will enable the iPod or iPhone to remotely control an oven, washing machine and other appliances.

“The unique combination of electronic entertainment device — the cult iPod touch — and a modern fridge freezer from Gorenje opens up new dimensions of living, fun, cuisine, and household tasks,” the company exclaims. “iPod has conquered the world, and new Gorenje appliances with interactive functions are conquering contemporary kitchens as they anticipate and set new trends.”

Gorenje is showing the appliance at this week’s IFA 2008 show in Berlin, but has yet to announce when it will go on sale.
