Amazon streams movies to American Macs

Amazon has unveiled a new movie store in the US, supporting Macs for the first time.
Unlike the Unbox downloads store which it succeeds, Amazon Video on Demand supports both PC and Mac users, with one caveat — only Windows users can download movies and TV shows for transferring to a portable device.
That does not mean that Mac users cannot purchase movies, but instead of storing them locally, as you would when buying from iTunes, Amazon stores them for you in an online Video Library. From there you access them at any time and from any computer, provided your on the net.
While Apple TV is not supported, content can be sent to a TV via a TiVo or Sony’s Bravia Internet Video Link.
“We’re continuing to create new, convenient ways for our customers to watch digital movies and TV shows. The ability to watch content instantly without downloading first was among the most requested features of our customers, and now it’s live — customers can instantly watch the ad-free title of their choice on a Mac, PC or compatible Sony Bravia TV” said Roy Price, director of Amazon Video On Demand.
Amazon is mum on plans, if there are any, to expand Video on Demand, or for that matter its music store or Kindle ebook service, outside the US.
